At Home Workouts
We are busier today than ever before. We spend more time at work and shopping than we do at home. Workouts can be accomplished at home without expensive equipment, rooms full of weights, treadmills and squat racks. This article will address three elements of the At Home Workout: Cardio, Flexibility Training, and Strength Training.
At Home Workouts – Cardio: There are many ways to do cardio exercises. One example would be some of the more recent video routines. I’ve watched these, and some of the new ones are really good! maybe you don’t like videos… I’m not a fan myself. How about a spin on your bike on a trainer? I’m a triathlete and spend many winter mornings on my trainer at home. Workouts on my Cyclops fluid trainer are not the same as my road work, but they are great cardio workouts. I’d avoid the air trainers, but a decent magnetic trainer is nice. Fluid trainers are the best, but a mgnetic will do nicely for someone who isn’t too serious about bicycling. Cyclops trainers are my pick. Don’t waste your money on Blackburns. They are nowhere near as good. I’ve had both and would not hesitate to spend a few more dollars on the Cyclops. It’s less expensive in the long run.
At Home Workouts – Flexibility: When it comes to flexibility training I do my best work at home. Workouts in the gym are mainly weight-training centric for most. I’ve just never felt comofortable stretching in the gym. Maybe it’s just a “guy” thing. I don’t know. Flexibility training doesn’t require a single thing! You can do a quick stretch, do your “At Home Workouts – Cardio” routine, then get a serious flexibility training session in. What’s the difference beten stretching and flexibility training? Flexibility training requires you to stretch warmed up muscles and hold each stretch for 30-45 seconds. There are more advanced techniques like PNF, but they are for another day.
At Home Workouts – Strength: There are times when I just can’t get to the gym but need to get in my strength training. There are plenty of things to do. Just look around the room you’re sitting in. I’m currently away on business, sitting in a hotel room. I can see an entire upper body workout from my desk. I could open up with a few sets of dips using the chair and couch (dips are too tough for some people, so don’t worry if you can’t do many.) I can do rows in the doorway to my bedroom (basically lean back and lift myself upright.) These are also challenging. To finish up, I can do a few sets of pull-ups on the door to the bedroom. I’d use a towel to protect my hands from the top of the door.
At Home, Workouts can often be accomplished without expensive fitness. They can be challenging, quick, and an end to excuses!
